Paul Fayard
Paul Fayard, a New Orleans native, who for the last seven years, has called Crystal Springs home, creates architectural portraits that reflect a sense of time, place and character that is unique to the South.
Paul trained at New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, University of New Orleans and Mississippi College where he earned a MA in art. He is a three time recipient of the Samuel Marshall Gore Award for Artistic Excellence and an adjunct instructor of art at Hinds Community College in Raymond.
Paul's real subject whether creating portraits, landscapes or still-lifes is light and what it reveals. He states, " I strive to express to the viewer via the language of paint what the language of words so often cannot. My goal is to express myself with force by eliminating the extraneous, magnifying the essential, intensifying color and perspective and maximizing the undeniable psychological impact of shadow and light." His work has been collected by numerous corporate and private institutions including Mississippi Chemical, Union Planters Bank and the Mississippi Department of Transportation. |

Nema's on North Street, acrylic on canvas, 16 x 20". "I passed this great house on my way to work for a while and everytime I did it seemed to speak out to me. I love it's red roof and classic porch. It very much reminds me of growing up in New Orleans in the 9th Ward. This is how it struck me late one afternoon."
|
North Street Stump, acrylic on canvas, 8 x 10". " This little house is right next to a restaurant. It is small but seems smaller still due to the giant tree trunk that is like an elephant guarding it's door. I also like the t.v.-dish up top. |
Prytania Street Porch, acrylic on canvas, 20 x 16". " This house is next to a movie theater in New Orleans. After coming out of the dark into the bright sunlight, believe me, this beauty is something to see." |
Rooftop Garden Night, oil. Van Gogh said that he often found the colors of the night more vibrant than those of the day. I tend to agree.
|
Rooftop Garden (Day) 12 x 16." Oil. This is a great old building just down the street from the Attic. It suggests to me the prow of a ship cutting through waves. |
Vicksburg Riverscape 2, Oil, 10 x 16". Seconds make all the difference when the sun is going down. Time slows down and speeds up in the same instant. |
Trip-Tick, acrylic. My wife and I live next door to a cemetery and I visit it every day when I walk our dog, Rose. If people were more connected with their mortality the world would be a far better place.
