J.E. Pitts By Jimmy Pitts I was born in Corinth, Mississippi in 1967 and I've been a lifelong Mississippian, currently living in Oxford. My only formal art training consists of five years of public school art classes in the Corinth Public School System. My primary medium is oil on canvas, masonite, or plywood. But I have also done work in collage, charcoal, pastel, and acrylic paint. I have also used latex house paint, magic marker, oil pastel sticks, and crayon. I consider any square item a suitable canvas. I have painted on old window frames, oblong pieces of wood, or cardboard. My favorite artists are Paul Klee, Willem De Kooning, the entire Wyeth family, Norman Rockwell when he tackles serious issues, Bill Traylor, the Finster family, and Van Gogh. I take inspiration from the things around me, daily life, and memory; though some of my work is pure fantasy, and deservedly exists in its own separate dimension. I love to create and average about 40 works a year.
